About us:

WildRescue, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1999 by Diana Leggett. It serves the North Texas in community in two ways:

Domestic rabbit rescue and rehabilition
-- we rescue domestic rabbits from the DFW animal shelters
-- we spay/neuter domestic rabbits in anticipation of adopting them out to appropriate homes
-- we sponsor adoption events to introduce our rabbits to potential new families
-- we educate the public on the proper care and housing of domestic rabbits and other companion animals
-- we maintain Rabbit's Rest Sanctuary, an American Sanctuary Association accredited facility that houses rabbits that are awaiting adoption or need a permanent safe place to live.

Sadly, there are far more domestic rabbits coming into DFW area shelters then we are able to adopt out -- we currently have over 100 domestic rabbits located at the McKinney Sanctuary. Our goal is to find them all loving families to live with, but until we do, they have the Sanctuary as a place to call theirs.

Texas wildlife rescue and rehabilitation
-- we rescue and rehabilitate native Texas wildlife for return back to the wild
-- we create and build appropriate caging and environments to house wildlife in our care
-- we educate the public to coexist with our "urban" wildlife, and offer exclusion and inclusion solutions for nuisance animals
-- we educate the public on the importance of a healthy ecosystem to support wildlife

The wildlife that comes through our doors numbers in the 600-900s each year. The majority of that wildlife is the eastern cottontail (our most fragile mammal), the fox squirrel, and the Virginia opossum.

We depend completely on the donations of individuals for our operating costs. We hope you will consider supporting us so that we can continue to do this important work.

The human spirit is not dead. It lives on in secret... It has come to believe that compassion, in which all ethics must take root, can only attain its full breadth and depth if it emraces all living creatures and does not limit itself to mankind. - Albert Schweitzer
